Raised Donut Recipe with Glaze

- 2 packages of active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening (I use Crisco)
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup scalded milk (if don't know how to make this, look here)
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 6 cups all purpose flour
Easy Lemon Truffle |
- In a bowl with a spoon, mix yeast and warm water, and set aside
- In a large bowl, mix sugar, salt and shortening (I use a stand mixer)
- Add milk and allow to cool to room temperature
- Beat eggs in another bowl with a whisk, and add to cooled mixture
- Add yeast and water mixture
- Add flour a bit at a time until you have a ball of dough (I use the paddle attachment)
- Set dough in an oiled mixing bowl and allow to rise until it has doubled in size
- Flour a board or you counter and place the dough on it.
- Roll the dough to a 1/2 inch thickness and cut with a cookie cutter or mason jar lid
- Cut the hole (my mom used a thimble)
- Let donuts rise again, for 30 minutes
- Heat one inch of oil and fry donuts until both sides are golden brown.
Sugar Glaze
Ingredients:
- 3 cups of sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 3/4 cup of milk
- 1/2 stick (4 tablespoons) of butter

Directions:
In a sauce pan mix all ingredients and then heat until sugar dribbled into cold water forms a ball.
Pour into a bowl and dip donuts
